Rachel Newbury

Rachel Newbury, Head of Annual Giving, Lancaster University

Rachel began her fundraising career at Lancaster University in 2001 when the institution formally established its development programme. With a background in secondary school teaching and publishing prior to entering the world of educational fundraising, she has enjoyed being part of the creation and growth of Lancaster’s development office. Initially tasked with the launch of the annual fund telethon, Rachel now has responsibility for the annual giving programme overall. She has increased the size and profile of the programme through extended telethons, direct mail campaigns, integration with alumni activities and major giving programmes, and through connections with both alumni and the wider university community. She deputises for the Director of Alumni and Development and is currently working with the newly formed Friends of Lancaster University in America, Inc – the charitable organization supporting the university from the United States. As a graduate of Lancaster University (English, 1993) she is also very pleased to receive fundraising phone calls from the student call team!
