Dr Carlos Alexandre Netto

Dr Netto is also a member of the Advisory Committees at CAPES/MEC (National Coordination for the Improvement of HE), CNPq/Min of S&T (National Research Council) and FAPERGS (Rio Grande do Sul State Research Foundation).

After graduating in medicine, he decided to embark on an academic career and took his MsC and PhD Degrees in Biochemistry at the same University, also spending two years of Post Doctoral training at the Institute of Psychiatry at the University of London. His academic career includes more than 110 scientific papers, and supervision 14 Masters and 10 PhDs on neuroscience - mainly on memory neurobiology, brain ischemia and neuroprotection. Dedicated to associative activities, he was president of the Brazilian Society for Neurosciences and Behavior, SBNeC, and Regional Secretary of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science, SBPC.

His academic administration career includes serving as Head of Department, Director of de Institute of Basic Health Sciences, Vice-President for Research (2000 – 2004) and Vice-President for Undergraduate Studies (2004 – 2008).
One of the main goals in his administration as president of the university is the internationalization of academic activities, aiming partnerships among the best world class universities and research institutes.
