Speaker Biography

Jannice Simpson

During a career break from work in Hotel and Hospitality, following the birth of twins in 1998, Jannice became interested in how her children were developing since their birth - learning quickly in numerous areas like sponges as they took everything around them on board.

Jannice became involved as a volunteer in a local PVI Playgroup that her children were attending, before being asked to join the playgroup team on a full-time basis. During her five years there Jannice progressed to become supervisor, gaining Key Practitioner status within Suffolk also leading the playgroup in achieving an "outstanding" OFSTED.
With a new interest in the wider area of Early Years Development now awakened Jannice obtained a BA Honours degree in Early Learning & Child Development at Suffolk New College, while also joining the team at Highfield Nursery School & Children's Centre in 2007 in the role of Family Support. Since joining Jannice has become part of the leadership team involved in providing new initiatives, working with progressive families in the local area and establishing a parent volunteer programme. In May this year Highfield has opened an annex in an area with 30% deprivation - a new challenge for the small team.

Using her experience gained as a parent and as an Early Years Practitioner Jannice has developed a passionate belief in an holistic approach to working with young children - recognising that parents and the extended family have the biggest impact on a childs development.

Jannice firmly believes that Children's Centres can and do offer families with young children a one-stop facility to assist them in maximising their children's learning - impacting passionately on their futures.
