Ged Fitzgerald

 Ged Fitzgerald
Ged began his career in local government with Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council in Merseyside in 1983.

He progressed through a range of posts in both Economic Development and Policy Support before his appointment as Director of Liverpool City Challenge and Head of Economic Development and European Affairs for Liverpool City Council.

He joined Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council in West Yorkshire as Deputy Chief Executive in January 1998 and was then appointed Chief Executive of Rotherham MBC in South Yorkshire from January 2001 where he stayed until the end of 2003. Following this he was Chief Executive at Sunderland City Council from 2004 to 2008.

Ged was Chief Executive at Lancashire County Council from June 2008 until the end of January 2011 when he took up post in Liverpool.

Ged has always retained an interest in Economic Development and Regeneration and will continue to enjoy these challenges together with the opportunity to reshape Liverpool City Council as an authority that is known for its Service Excellence and innovative working. He will also focus on Liverpool City Council’s pivotal role in promoting and positioning Liverpool City Region as a key economic driver with in the UK.

Ged also sits on the Board of Solace (the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives).
