Speaker Biography

Judy Shakespeare

Judy has been a GP for more than 30 years, but retired from her busy inner-city practice in August 2011.

She has had a long-term interest in women’s health, particularly contraception, maternity care and perinatal mental health. For the last six years she has been the RCGP representative to the writing committee for the Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Death and has written chapters for the last two reports.

She worked with the King’s Fund in 2010 to produce a paper on the “Role of the GP in maternity care” and subsequently developed a Consensus statement between the RCGP, RCM and RCOG on this topic.

In 2011 she has represented the RCGP on the RCOG Review of High Quality Women’s Health Services.
