Steve Egan

Steve Egan is Deputy Chief Executive of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the agency responsible for distributing public funding for teaching and research to higher education institutions (HEIs). Steve’s interests include leadership, governance and management in HEIs, sustainable development, equality and diversity and improving efficiency through, for example, better human resource management, asset utilisation or procurement. Steve is responsible for assessing institutional financial health and acting to help prevent institutional failure.

Steve is a qualified accountant, has an MBA from the University of Bath and is a Vice-Chair of the governing board of the programme on Institutional Management in Higher Education at the OECD. Steve is also a trustee of the National Centre for Social Research and a Director of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).
