Sarah Steel

 Sarah Steel
Sarah founded The Old Station Nursery Ltd in 2002, after a search for high quality local childcare left her thinking that there was a gap in the market. She says that her ‘Eureka’ moment was after looking round numerous nurseries that she didn’t really like but had huge waiting lists and thought ‘I could do better than that’. It has been a challenging nine years since then, but has undoubtedly been a success story. The company now runs 13 settings across the UK and has been recognised with numerous awards.

Sarah was a member of the Department for Schools, Children and Families Children’s Plan Expert Group and also a member of their Early Years Stakeholder Group, both of which advise Government on policy around Early Years and Education.

She is actively involved in the childcare sector and is a member of the National Policy Executive for the National Day Nurseries Association. She is also a keen advocate for Women in Enterprise and is part of the BIS Women Ambassador’s programme and has also attended BIS workshops to advise on Government support for women in business.
