 Karen Payne
Karen’s responsibilities as NHS Yorkshire and the Humber Public Health Workforce Lead include implementing a strategic portfolio for specialist and wider workforce priorities to enable organisations, teams and individuals to contribute to building public health capacity and capability.

The ‘Making Every Contact Count’ strategy has developed a new approach which includes the Prevention and Lifestyle Behaviour Change: a competence framework to embed and sustain behaviour change competence across health and wider workforces.
With experience previously as a nurse and midwife and having a Masters in Public Health from the University of Nottingham, this clinical, managerial and public health expertise and experience includes working across the whole NHS and social care system including acute trusts, primary and community care along with SHA and Department of Health.

Karen’s work in the private sector has enabled her to bring this expertise and skills to the public sector, with the ability to do things differently and bring positive challenge to the status quo. Karen is passionate about making it easy for frontline workforces to be supported, empowered and enabled to deliver quality outcomes in their everyday work for the benefit of the population.
