Martin Peart

Curriculum Area Manager Marine Engineering, Falmouth Marine School

Martin Peart is the Curriculum Area Manager for Marine Engineering at Falmouth Marine School which delivers the majority of marine related studies for the Cornwall College group. Martin has worked for the college over the last four years and during this time the engineering results have improved, taking the college into the top 10% nationally of engineering colleges. Stakeholder engagement has also increased with Ofsted rating the college’s stakeholder provision as outstanding in May 2010.

Martin entered an apprenticeship with the Royal Navy in 1972 and completed a 12 year contract before leaving to run his own business and continued to work within the marine industry during the following fifteen years. In 1997, Martin became employed at technician level in his local college of further education and developed his level of academic study, initially to become a qualified lecturer and assessor and then to study at Higher National Certificate level and finally to a MSc in Engineering and Management.

Within the Cornwall College engineering sector there are 185 Level 2 and 223 Level 3 apprentices on a variety of frameworks which include Land Based Service Engineering, Marine Engineering, Vehicle Body & Paint, Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Engineering Maintenance and Installation Food Manufacture, PEO and Plant Maintenance, Electrotechnical Services, Engineering Maintenance, Fabrication & Welding, Installation and Commissioning, Mechanical Manufacturing, Automotive Engineering, Vehicle Maintenance & Repair. David has worked in the FE sector for the last 11 years and in the Secondary Sector for the previous 17 years.
