Speaker Biography

Heath Reed

Heath came to industrial design relatively late in his career, having worked previously as an illustrator; model maker and in both creative and technical capacities in the theatre and film industries.

He has been working in product design consultancy since 1999 and since 2007 been sharing this role with his research interest focused on how design can both contribute and facilitate new directions in the areas of health and social sustainability.

A broad and diverse background has enabled him to apply interdisciplinary research thinking and a key driver has been working at the sometimes ‘invisible’ junctions between the disciplines. He has a particular interest in how we capitalise on creativity and the contribution design can make in facilitating and directing research activities that lead to innovative, practical and tangible product outputs. Committed to the field of 3D design and R&D, Heath has a proven track record as an innovator; has accrued a number of design awards; a growing list of design methodology co-authored publications and has numerous products in market.
