Robert Harris

 Robert Harris
Robert is Policy Director at Monitor and was appointed in September 2006.

His responsibilities include the development of NHS Foundation Trusts: financial, governance and quality-related performance improvement and also local accountability initiatives. Before joining Monitor, he spent 12 months working for an NHS Trust.

The majority of his career has been spent in investment banking and operational management. Most recently he was CEO of a financial services company, and before that served as CFO of a global IT corporation. Prior to moving into operational management, he spent 10 years as an investment banker based variously in New York, Tokyo and London. Latterly he was Managing Director of an investment bank, specialising in corporate and structured finance. Past clients included the governments of UK, France, Germany and Japan as well as leading international companies such as BT, AT&T, BP, News Corporation, BMW and Sony. During this time he also served as Special Adviser to the Secretary of State for Trade & Industry and The President of the Board of Trade.

Robert read Law at the University of Oxford, Political Economics at the University of Bristol, and Finance at Columbia Business School. He is a Fellow of the Securities and Investment Institute and Visiting Professor of Healthcare Management at the Cass Business School, City University.
