Paulette Ragan

Paulette has worked as a community nurse with marginalised groups for the past eight years. She began working with refugees and new migrants, moving on to those with drug and alcohol problems, and then the homeless client.

Whilst working with the homeless group, amongst other sections of the cohort, Paulette has taken part in working in the Intermediate Care Project and with homeless women who sex work. During this time, Paulette noticed that the some of the women were experiencing multiple unplanned pregnancies. She looked to find a way that they could be given more choice and avoid the trauma of separation anxiety for both the mother and child.

‘Meeting the contraception needs of sex working females’ resulted in the Nursing Times, Nursing in the Community Award 2012.
