Carol Landry is the first woman to sit on the United Steelworkers international executive board. She holds the position of International Vice-President at Large. In 2008, she was appointed to this position by unanimous vote and was re-elected in 2009.

Landry, a long-time activist and seasoned negotiator who joined the USW in 1986 at Canada’s largest copper mine, has held virtually every position at the local union level. In 1999, she was appointed to the USW’s Canadian staff, where she serviced local unions on the lower mainland of British Columbia and led negotiations in a variety of industries, from mining to manufacturing, to healthcare to financial institutions and more.

At the International, Landry has worked on a variety of issues, including leading the union’s historic fight for health insurance reform in the United States.

Throughout her career, she’s spearheaded mentoring and other programs that encourage women to seek leadership positions in the union.

Landry is also an executive board member of the International Metalworkers Federation (IMF). She also serves as General Vice President at the AFL-CIO Department of Professional Employees.
