Carbon Reduction

UK carbon emissions have to be cut 30% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. To meet these tough targets without penalising intensive users of energy the Government will bring in the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC). This mandatory scheme aims to significantly reduce emissions in all organisations with annual electricity bills over £500K. The Government has put local authorities in the forefront of the drive to reduce emissions and this scheme will have far-reaching consequences for local authorities. The scheme has all party support and is scheduled for April 2010 when Local Authorities will have to set up independently audited energy-use monitoring systems An anticipated 5000 organisations will come under the scheme including local authorities.
