Elizabeth Binns MBE

 Elizabeth Binns MBE
Principal Libraries and Adult Learning Officer, Bury Council.

Elizabeth is a Principal Libraries and Adult Learning Officer with Bury Council. She manages a range of services combating social exclusion including Bury’s nationally recognised Community Development programme. This was a unique development which enabled Bury to expand at a time when most other library authorities were shrinking. The Community Centre and Library at Topping Fold was used by the Big Lottery Fund as the template for its Community Libraries Fund and it is often cited as an example of excellence. Elizabeth has spoken to many groups, all over the country, about Bury’s programme and her work in this area was recognised in 2005 when she was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen.

Elizabeth is also an Anglican priest with Manchester Diocese and a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester. All three roles compliment each other in making a positive contribution to communities.
