Shaynie qualified as a nurse in 1989 at Bury St Edmunds hospital.

She then practised as a general nurse at Newmarket General Hospital before going on to undertake the Health Visiting Certificate at Ipswich College.

Since qualifying as a Health visitor Shaynie has worked at Thetford, Ely and Soham. She has also managed Health Visiting and School Nursing teams and acted as training and development manager.

Shaynie became the lead nurse for the newly commissioned Gypsy & Traveller health team in 2009, leading the team and acting as the main point of referral for health concerns for the Gypsy & Traveller Community.
