Speaker Biography

Dr Louise Gazeley

Louise is employed as a Lecturer in Education at the University of Sussex where she am currently seconded for half the time to work with the widening participation team on evaluation. Louise’s teaching and research focuses on the relationship between social and educational (dis)advantage.

She recently co-authored a literature synthesis for the Higher Education Academy called The contribution of pre-entry interventions to student retention and success. Prior to this Louise led a two-year evaluation of the Villiers Park Scholars Programme, a fair access initiative that promotes the entry of less advantaged young people to ‘leading’ universities.

At the moment she is leading a project commissioned by the Office of the Children’s Commissioner into Reducing Inequalities in Rates of School Exclusion. In the past she has worked in secondary schools, in a pupil referral unit and in a college of further education.
