Hugh Sherrard-Smith

 Hugh Sherrard-Smith
Hugh started his career in the patent profession over thirty five years ago after graduating as a civil engineer. Thirty of these years have been with Appleyard Lees, a firm established in 1832. He has been both Managing and Senior Partner. Hugh is currently an active consultant to Appleyard Lees. He continues to draft and prosecute IP applications, passing on his extensive experience in oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office to the firm’s trainees.
As part of his extensive technical experience, Hugh has been involved with the aeronautical and medical fields. He has, over the years, travelled extensively in Asia, where he has given IP seminars. Hugh has also been active as a visiting lecturer in the UK, and has been an examiner for the institute’s Infringement and Validity exam.
