Ian Ground

Ian Ground is leader of the Explore Team at the North East Centre for Lifelong Learning (NECLL) and Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Sunderland.

Over the last thirty years, Ian has taught philosophy at a number of institutions in the North East including Newcastle, Durham, the Open University and currently Sunderland University. He has a career long commitment to the value of adult education and lifelong learning.

He is the author of 4 books in philosophy including works in the philosophy of art and the philosophy of mind. He is a member of the British Society for Aesthetics Executive and has recently been appointed Secretary of the British Wittgenstein Society.

In 2007 Ian was a winner of Sunderland University’s Teaching Innovation Award and in April 2010 accepted the Universities Association for Lifelong Learning National Award on behalf of the NECLL Explore team.
