The recent General Election has resulted in the first Conservative-only cabinet in 18 years. Change, disruption and opportunities lie ahead for the sector. Absorbing the impacts of the General Election will be critical for institutions and leaders in Higher Education. Universities stand to potentially win greater freedom to raise funds, and taxation changes could greatly benefit institutions and help facilitate collaboration. However there are also fears student fees could rise “significantly” after 2015, and the Conservative pledge to tighten the rules on visas for international students have the potential to negatively impact on student enrolment numbers.
