Janine McKnight

Janine McKnight trained as a nurse, midwife and health visitor and her career started in 1978. She studied at university but has her roots in clinical practice development. Prior to her current role as a Health Visitor/Team Leader in the Cannock, Staffordshire area, she has held clinical posts at Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, Tamworth and Sutton Coldfield.

In addition to her clinical work, Janine has spoken at a number of professional international conferences. She has also lectured on the subject of Premature Baby Care to large audiences in Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela (August 2010). Janine was the author and project lead of Stop that Shake – Babies Break, an award-winning teaching and resource pack which was developed with funding from the Queen’s Nursing Institute. Janine has also had her work published in Little Bliss Premature Baby Journal and Community Practitioner Journal.

Over the course of her career, Janine has won a number of awards including the Nursing Times Award (2006), the West Midlands Innovation and Queen’s Nursing Institute Innovation in Practice Award (September 2009), the South Staffs Patients’ Choice and Quality and Excellence Awards (Highly Commended, October 2009) and the Queen’s Nurse Title (October 2010). Her motivation for this particular subject matter has come from very real clinical experience of working
with families and partner agencies involved directly with cases of child abuse. Janine describes herself as a clinician with the ability and passion to put rhetoric into reality!
