Dr Bloom joined NYU Abu Dhabi from Swarthmore College, after 18 years as president. Previously, he served as executive vice-president and, before that, as vice-president of academic affairs and dean of faculty of Pitzer College in Claremont, California. He received his PhD from Harvard University and holds honorary doctorates from the University of Richmond and Swarthmore College.
