Frank McLoughlin CBE

Chair, 157 Group, Prinicipal, City & Islington College

Frank McLoughlin has been Principal of City and Islington College since July 2002.

Located in five purpose-designed centres, City and Islington College is one of the largest general further education colleges in England: it has over 15,000 students, the equivalent of 711 full-time staff and an annual budget in excess of £50 million. The College has recently completed a £60 million building and refurbishment programme.

In the May 2008 Ofsted Inspection the College joined a small handful of colleges nationally, judged to be outstanding in every measure. In February 2008 the College was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education – the only College to be awarded this for a second time. In December 2005 the College was awarded Beacon Status.

Frank is particularly proud of City and Islington College's commitment to widening participation and supporting progression to Higher Education. Each year more than 1000 students, including young people and adults from academic and vocational programmes, progress to University.

The College is a major provider of foundation degree programmes with over 700 students studying programmes in conjunction with local universities and employers. The College is developing employability skills provision and a new core specialism. Frank is on the National Steering Group of the Deloitte Employability Programme.

Frank is a founding member and Chair of the influential 157 Group. He is an executive member of the Islington Strategic Partnership. He is also a member of the 14-19 Regional Planning Group for London and is on the London First Employment and Skills Steering Group
