Tackling Domestic Violence - New Approaches and Effective Interventions
18 Sep 2013

This event is a slides and audio broadcast only.

The most recent Home Office figures show that 7.3 percent of women and 5 percent of men reported having been a victim of domestic violence. In real terms this amounts to 1.2 million women and 800,000 men.

Since 2005, three of the four main categories of domestic abuse have shown a significant decrease in their prominence, however much more needs to be done to eradicate the problem of domestic violence. With this in mind, Policy Knowledge is proud to present our Domestic Violence policy briefing, a forum for discussion and debate on the new approaches and interventions being adopted to tackle domestic violence.

This important briefing will discuss key issues including:

  • The government’s reclassification of domestic violence to include 16-17 year olds
  • The revised strategy on tackling domestic violence against women and girls (VAWG)
  • The rise of honour based violence
  • Tackling the stigma of domestic violence amongst BME groups
  • Encouraging male victims of domestic violence to come forward
  • Supporting vulnerable members of society including disabled, young people and elderly people

This event will feature contribution from key organisations who are working towards understanding and tackling the problem of domestic violence; including best practice case studies of proven approaches that have significantly addressed the issue of violence in the home. This event will not only focus on preventing domestic violence, but also supporting victims of domestic abuse to move forward from their ordeals to live fulfilling and happy lives. With these key issues in mind, and the importance of taking a joined up approach to tackling domestic violence we invite stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds to attend and contribute solutions to one of the most difficult challenges facing our society today. We look forward to welcoming you.
